• The Storm Drain Section is responsible for maintenance and repair of the storm drainage system in public areas and along city roads.
• The section routinely cleans the drainage system and removes any obstacles obstructing the flow of water. This section also makes structural improvements to insure that the system is able to and reasonably handle water flow. Residents are reminded to never dispose of leaves, grass clippings, oil, or trash in to the drainage system or in a location, such as a roadway, where debris could be swept into the system by storm water. Such actions may result in serious flooding during the next storm.
• Sandbags and plastic materials are also provided to City of Oakland residents to minimize water problems in the event of a storm. The items are delivered to the disabled and elderly upon request.
• Landslides or erosion on private property should be reported to the City of Oakland Building Services Department, Planning and Building Engineering Services Division at (510) 238-2262, located at 250 Frank Ogawa Plaza, Second Floor.
